The dragonflies I'm familiar with are much smaller and slenderer and are iridescent greenish black.

It's hard to get an idea of the size without reference points. Mine is about 2 inches long.

The smaller bugs similar to dragonflies may be damselflies.
Actually, I meant many colors and sizes. There is some variation in shape, but they are fairly similar.
Thanks for the link. Who knew there were such interesting varieties? Like those of us who think moths are boring white suicidal pyromaniacs.
